BAYADA Home Health Care Becomes Worldwide Not-for-Profit
BAYADA Home Health Care is an EMS client that has been a trendsetter and leader in its field since 1975. The company was founded by entrepreneur Mark Baiada in a single Philadelphia office. Today, more than 25,000 BAYADA (pronounced “Bay-ah-dah”) employees provide clinical care and home support to 24,000 patients each week. The company operates out of 325 locations in 22 states and four countries. EMS began its work with BAYADA about a decade ago. According to Rob Scharff, BAYADA’s Area Director for Pediatric Reimbursement, the team needed a supplemental software system to help in its cash posting processes. Over the past few years, BAYADA expanded its use of EMS tools, including the EDI Power Reader and EDI Power Toolbox. “EMS’s products are there for us when our clearinghouse falls short,” he shared. “By using the software as an add-on, we can do things that our current systems can’t achieve—like segmenting out reimbursements and denials for individuals or for select groups of payors. The feature allows us to download the data into user-friendly excel files speeds our workflow and provides key analytical capabilities.” In addition to its satisfaction with EMS’s products, Scharff and the BAYADA revenue cycle team say they’re grateful for the partnership they have established with EMS’s own staff. “Our relationship has been seamless,” he said. “David (Pontrello) and his team always make time to exchange ideas, learn more about our business, train our staff and show us how to use the products in new applications. Currently, about 100 of our employees rely on the EMS software suite to achieve daily and weekly goals.” With such success, where might a company like BAYADA go from here? “Our vision is to serve more millions of people worldwide allowing them to experience a higher quality of life in the comfort of their home,” explained Scharff. “We want to build and maintain a lasting legacy. We’ve begun a transition to not-for-profit status to aid that vision, as well as a leadership transition from generation to generation.” Founder and President Mark Baiada stepped down from his role as CEO this past August, and isassuming the role of Chairman of the Board for the new foundation. Baiada’s son, David, is now the Chief Executive Officer. Scharff said “it’s all part of a long-term plan to ensure that the company is never sold and its mission, values, and beliefs continue for the next 100 plus years.” “Our mission is to help people have a safe home life with comfort, independence and dignity. We plan to continue making available the highest quality home health care to people across the world” he shared. We wish Rob, the Baiada family and its extended employee family all our best, and are proud to play a part in their global vision.
